I love each and every holiday because each one brings a different reason to make something special in the kitchen for the one I love. With Valentine’s Day quickly approaching, I knew I needed something sweet and something heart-shaped to let my husband Jon know how much I love him (they don’t say the way to a guy’s heart is through his stomach for nothing). :) So, this year I chose to make Jon some heart-shaped chocolate chip cookie dough brownies. WOW. Let me tell you – if you like brownies and you like chocolate chip cookie dough, then you MUST try this recipe. It’s very rich, but super tasty and sure to be a hit with the one you love (or your coworkers, your neighbors, your family, the mailman…you get the picture). And the best part? It is egg-free so there is no need to worry about getting salmonella! Score!

These Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies are inspired by a recipe I found via Pinterest (you can follow me on Pinterest here) that was posted from a great website, Recipegirl, that I encourage you to check out. You can find the original recipe here, but I have made a few adjustments which are listed below. The biggest change is to the brownies, as hers are made from scratch but mine are simply from the box. I’m a big believer that with some things, you’ve gotta make it from scratch, but with other things – the boxed kind works great and saves you a lot of time. The picture below shows my favorite brand and type of brownies to make. They come highly recommended by my husband – they’re his absolute favorite.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Brownies
Ingredients for Brownies: 1 Box Brownie Mix (make sure to read what is needed on the back of the box to prepare. For mine, I needed 1/4 c water, 3/4 c vegetable oil, and two eggs).

Ingredients for Cookie Dough:
3/4 cup butter (room temperature)
3/4 cup light brown sugar, packed
3/4 cup granulated white sugar
3 Tablespoons milk
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups (1 bag) mini chocolate chips

Directions:
1. Prepare brownies according to box. I used a 9×13 dish. Let cool completely before putting cookie dough on top.
2. Prepare the cookie dough. Use an electric mixer to combine butter, brown sugar and white sugar. Then, mix in milk and vanilla. Next, mix in flour until combined. Stir in chocolate chips.
3. Spread the cookie dough over the cooled brownies. Place in the fridge so that it gets cold – this will help make them easier to cut. I used a cookie cutter to get the shape of the heart and then used a sharp knife to cut all the way through the brownie. You don’t have to cut shapes and could just as easily cut them into rectangles.
4. The original recipe called for chocolate to be drizzled on top. This is optional – I opted not to because they are so rich already that I didn’t want to overdo it!

    You should try making Cake Pops sometime, and by sometime I mean, MAKE SOME AND GIVE THEM TO ME. :D
    Okay,I’m gonna make nana go buy all the stuff to make these so i can try them. hahaha :P
